Pakistan issued this Rs. 5 stamp on 31 December 1992 as part of the Fauna series featuring water birds. The design shows the Mallard scientifically identified as Anas platyrhynchos. This familiar duck is associated with lakes, rivers, marshes, wetlands and other watery environments. Its inclusion in the issue highlights the variety of birdlife found within Pakistan and along important seasonal routes.  Each design carried a value of Rs. 5 and was produced in multicolour printing.

A Water Bird on Pakistani Philately

The 1992 Pakistani wildlife issue brought attention to several water birds through a colorful set of postage stamps. Among them was the Mallard, known by its scientific name Anas platyrhynchos. The bird occupies an important place within wetland ecosystems where it can feed and rest. Its portrayal on postage gives the species a lasting place in Pakistan’s philatelic history. The Mallard stamp had a 5-rupee denomination and measured approximately 26 × 41 mm.

The Mallard stamp is part of Pakistan Water Birds series of 1992 created to showcase notable species associated with the country natural environment. Their colorful illustrations make them useful for thematic collections covering birds, fauna, environmental subjects and Asian wildlife. Today this 1992 issue remains a distinctive example of Pakistan efforts to combine postal art with natural history.
