USA World War 2 FDC – 1941 Destroyer Reuben James Burma Road

USPS has issued FDC to commemorate the World War 2.  It contains two stamps depicting destroyer Ruben James sunk October 31 and Burma Road, 717-mile lifeline to China.

The USS Reuben James (DD-245) was a United States Navy destroyer that was sunk by a German submarine, U-552, on October 31, 1941. This tragic event occurred before the United States officially entered World War II and marked one of the early casualties of the Battle of the Atlantic. The Burma Road, it was a critical supply route during World War II, connecting Burma now Myanmar to China. The road was approximately 717 miles long and served as a lifeline for China, allowing vital supplies to reach Chinese forces fighting against the Japanese in the Pacific Theater of the war.

USS Reuben James DD-245:

The USS Reuben James (DD-245) was a United States Navy destroyer that was sunk by a German submarine, U-552, on October 31, 1941, during World War II. It was one of the first U.S. Navy ships to be lost in the Battle of the Atlantic. There have been various commemorative stamps and philatelic items related to naval history and World War II, but I’m not aware of a specific USS Reuben James FDC from that era.

Burma Road:

In the world of tennis, few names shine as brightly as that of Justine Henin Hardenne. This Belgian tennis legend has not only left an indelible mark on the sport but has also significantly influenced the governing body of tennis in the French Community of Belgium.

Justine Henin was born on June 1,1982, in Liège, Belgium. From an early age, she displayed an amazing talent for tennis. Her family recognized her potential and enrolled her in local tennis clubs where she began honing her skills. This marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that would change the face of women’s tennis game. She is considered as one of the legends of the tennis in Belgium. Justine Henin is a Belgian former professional tennis player. She is considered one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. Henin turned professional in 1999 and won her first tour in Antwerp event as a wildcard and in 2001 she won her first three tournaments of the year, reached her first Grand Slam semi-final at Roland Garros and broke into the top ten. But 2003 was the defining season for Henin, winning eight titles, including victory at the French Open in June. After winning the US Open title she overtook Kim Clijsters to reach the no one..

Henin won 43 WTA singles titles and seven Grand Slam singles titles, including four French Open titles, one Australian Open title, and two US Open titles. She has also won the year-ending Sony Ericsson Championships twice and the singles gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
