Celebrating the Equality State

The USA State of Wyoming 50th Anniversary Stamp was issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Wyoming statehood. Known as the Equality State Wyoming was admitted as the 44th state of the United States on July 10, 1890 and this stamp honors its rich history and pioneering spirit.

Wyoming: The Equality State

Wyoming earned the nickname Equality State because it was the first U.S. territory to grant women the right to vote in 1869 long before it became a state. This progressive stance made Wyoming a leader in women suffrage and it remained a hallmark of its identity when it joined the Union in 1890. Wyoming continued to uphold equality by being the first state to have a female governor Nellie Tayloe Ross in 1925.
